An office space in a Grade II listed building in Uckfield, East Sussex was converted into a two-surgery private dental practice with a dedicated decontamination room.
ScandiSmile is a family-run private dental practice in the heart of Uckfield, led by Dr Peter and Signe Landboe-Christensen. The practice offers general dental care with a Scandinavian influence, combining simple design, clear communication and a personal approach.
The practice was created to provide a comprehensive range of treatments in one place, helping patients receive more continuous care from the same team. Honesty, transparency and long-term trust are central to the way the practice presents itself.
The project involved converting an office space on the first floor of a Grade II listed building into a squat dental practice. This created several practical constraints. The building setting required care, the layout needed to support two surgeries and decontamination and the first-floor access included a spiral staircase.
We liaised with the builder, who completed the main build works, while we focused on the dental equipment, services and clinical fit-out requirements.
The first-floor office space was converted into two surgeries and a dedicated decontamination room. The project needed careful coordination between the builder and the dental installation team so the finished rooms could support daily clinical use.
We completed the electrics and plumbing required for the dental equipment, including services for the chairs, suction and compressed air. Lighting was also included as part of the clinical fit-out.
The surgeries were fitted with Gerflor Metallica Energy flooring, Limelight cabinetry and Corian Glacier White worktops. Integrated Corian bowls and D handles were selected to give the rooms a clean, practical finish.
The decontamination room was fitted with matching cabinetry, steel sinks and D handles, giving the practice a dedicated area for instrument reprocessing.
One of the main practical challenges was access. The Belmont Voyager III chairs had to be taken up to the first floor using the spiral staircase. The chairs were installed successfully, including one with Ash Grey upholstery and one with Camel upholstery, a bespoke finish normally associated with Belmont’s hairdressing chair range.
The completed project gave ScandiSmile a fully fitted two-surgery private dental practice within a Grade II listed building in Uckfield.
The former office space was adapted for clinical use, with two treatment rooms, a decontamination room and the infrastructure needed to support dental equipment.
For the clinical team, the finished practice provides a practical setting for general dental care with a clear and consistent design.
For patients, it supports the calm, personal service that ScandiSmile wanted to create. The two-surgery layout also gives the practice the capacity to provide a wider range of care from one location.
