CPD Course hosted by Eclipse Dental Engineering

Even though there was the usual grid-locked traffic around Dartford the delegates for the Schulke CPD course on Dental Infection Control arrived at the Eclipse Dental showroom by the 6.30pm start.

30 dental professionals sat the course presented by Sarah Green, which covered best practice and guidance on decontamination and reducing cross infection. This was a very cost-effective (and verifiable) continual professional development programme for HTM 01-05 and CQC compliance.

Once everyone had their fill of sandwiches, drinks and cookies the course started in good time. And started with a quiz…. Understandably, in these circumstances when a tutor is standing in front of a class, there usually isn’t much of a response from the students to the first few questions. Sarah was quick to move through them, seeing if anyone would be bold enough to shout out the answers.

They were questions like:- Should you clean in an ‘s’ motion? Should you use alcohol or not, to clean surfaces and chairs? Do you know the contact time of the products?

During the 2 hour verifiable session these questions were addressed and explained with statistics and funny anecdotes. Sarah’s delivery was exceptional and she really engaged with the group and presented a very interesting and memorable learning experience, where the subjects covered could most definitely be put into practice the next day.

A prominent factor which everyone took away is that infection control is everybody’s responsibility.

During the section about decontamination the display in the Eclipse Dental showroom was presented as an example of best practice layout & design and Sarah pointed out that it was about 'getting the flow right in your decon room'. For more information on the layouts suggested, see here - Decontamination Room Case Study

At the end, the dental professionals were confident in their answers to the repeated questions from the beginning and then had a chance to network. The Eclipse staff were on hand to answer any questions about surgery layout and discuss the Heka and Ancar chairs they had on display.
